WHAT IS TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a collaboration of diagnostic models based on natural laws and thousands of years of observation. These models allow practitioners to correctly diagnose and treat a vast array of medical conditions through the lens of TCM. These treatments contain modalities such as Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Cupping, Gua Sha, Moxibustion, Acupressure, and Tui Na. Many of the basic principles of TCM revolve around the concept of Yin and Yang, so balance is an ever-present theme in every TCM treatment. Chinese Medicine not only aims to strike this balance within our internal systems; but also within our external connections to the world around us.

WHAT KINDS OF THINGS CAN TCM TREAT?

Traditional Chinese Medicine is derived from simple natural laws that are applied to the body as a way of viewing and treating illness. This means that most diseases and symptoms can be understood and targeted through TCM treatment. However, every individual is different meaning that each person's results and timelines of healing will also look differently. In Western cultures, TCM has often been associated with the treatment of common diseases such as...
- Insomnia
- Depression and Anxiety
- Digestive complaints/IBD/Crohn's
- Acute and chronic muscle and joint pain
- Headaches
- Chronic Fatigue

I HAVE NEVER HAD A CHINESE MEDICINE TREATMENT, WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Your initial treatment with a Chinese Medicine practitioner will include an in-depth intake of your complete health history. This is usually done through a series of questions regarding bodily systems, observation of the tongue, and feeling the state of the pulse. The purpose of this initial intake is to paint a detailed picture of your individual health history. This allows your practitioner to create a treatment plan that is suited to your specific needs. Once your intake is complete your practitioner will explain the details of your treatment. This will include the modalities your practitioner would like to use with you, a personal timeline assessment, the benefits of treatment, as well as any potential risks.
